Well since I feel behind I decided I would just do one post for all of the days :) This week has been pretty productive, but it isn't as easy to document what all has been done.
Monday:
Todd and his dad did some wiring for the house and his mom and I cleaned up all of the debris that was still upstairs, and I started demo on the basement stairs and the basement ceiling (quite possibly the dirtiest place in the house...).
Below are pictures of the wiring in progress :) the second picture (the one of Todd) is Todd in the crawlspace underneath the house... after I took this picture he said " Rude! you are documenting my torture!" but it must all be documented..even the worst parts of it :)
These are pictures of the clean upstairs, all the lathe and plaster and insulation is cleaned up from the floors...or at least most of it. Let me tell you it is very hard going up and down those steep stairs with a garbage can that's practically full of cement..
These last pictures from Monday are my attempt to demo the stairs and the basement ceiling.
The first picture is the ceiling... I didn't get a whole lot of it done but it was at least a start :) The other picture is of the stairwell down to the basement, we only had to demo the wall you see partially demo'd ..I did to where I could reach...
Tuesday:
Well tuesday was our 3rd Anniversary! So after work I went home and got ready to go work on the house... and when I got there Todd was already there working his butt off so that we wouldn't have to be there all night and we could go on a date for our anniversary! He had picked up all the wood we needed to get from home depot, finished the demo on the stairs to the basement and was practically done with the ceiling in the basement. It was very exciting and sweet of him! :)
Wednesday:
Well .. as with all projects there is bound to be something your weren't planning on... for us it was the fact that the nice little archway between the two large front rooms was actually a load bearing wall that some idiot had decided to turn into an arch... Luckily after we took off the ceiling tiles and the lathe and plaster we noticed the bow in the ceiling. So we put a large header and 2x4's to add more support than what was previously there. Todd, his dad, and Jon all hoisted that up there and straightened out the bow. It's amazing how much of a difference it made in the room above, the floor used to be kind of bouncy and now it feels much more stable! thank goodness we noticed it before it got worse! :)
Below is the picture of the nice sturdy header that we put up.
We also finished cleaning up the debris in the basement :)

Wow Bethanie, you guys are simply amazing! I am really excited for you guys, I love to see this kind of stuff. It's awesome to actually know(kind of know) ;0) someone doing it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Candice! It's pretty fun :) and tiring all at the same time :) but I'm excited to have a home :)
